Case Study: Arm Wrap Cost Reduction

Background:

A customer wanted to evaluate arm wrap across their enterprise. Arm wrap is a pressure bandage applied around the access point on the donor arm after a procedure. Arm wrap comes in a variety of widths and material and the customer sought to capture the usage reduction from standardizing on a premium arm wrap product where per donor consumption could be decreased.

Plan:

In collaboration with HemaSource the customer established a two month, nine site study. HemaSource’s proprietary software provided a baseline on current usage and the analytics for arm wrap SKUs used and per donor usage.

Results:

The two-month, nine center study resulted in a 5.93% savings from decreased usage. The initial success influenced the decision to implement the solution system-wide, resulting in an estimated $84K in annual cost reduction.

HemaSource collaboration made it possible to:

  • Easily establish baseline usage of arm wrap
  • Monitor a 2 month initiative to decrease usage
  • Scale the results and maximize cost savings
