Regulatory compliance
DSCSA: traceability that protects patients
The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) is the U.S. law that governs how prescription drugs move through the supply chain. It requires every trading partner β manufacturers, distributors, and dispensers β to be licensed and authorized, to exchange detailed transaction data for each product, and to support tracing medicines down to the unit level.
Why it matters: DSCSA exists to keep counterfeit, stolen, contaminated, or otherwise harmful drugs out of the supply chain. When every handoff is documented and verifiable, suspect product can be identified, quarantined, and recalled quickly β protecting patients and the providers who treat them.
DSCSA benefits
- Counterfeit, stolen, and contaminated drugs are kept out of the supply chain
- Every product handoff is documented and verifiable between trading partners
- Suspect product can be quickly identified, quarantined, and recalled
- Patients and providers are protected by end-to-end traceability
