Frequently Asked Questions

Products
Q: Dispatch: How do I keep track of expiration dates on refills of Distpatch™?
A: Using a blank label, write in the lot number and expiration date of the Dispatch contained in the gallon refill jug. Place this sticker over the old lot number and expiration date listed on the empty 32 oz. spray bottle that is being refilled. Upon request, HemaSource will enclose expiration date stickers with the gallon refill jugs we ship to you.
Q: Iodine: What is the correct storage temperature for iodine products?
A: The allowable range for iodine product storage is 15 degrees C to 30 degree C. The recommended storage temperature is 25 degrees C or cooler if possible. Iodine products are heat sensitive and prolonged storage at elevated temperatures can have adverse effects on stability.
Q: Iodine Gel Bottles: I use the flip-top gel bottles (catalog number ALC2269). There is a letter after the lot number. Is the letter part of the lot number?
A: Yes, the "letter" represents the production shift in which the product was manufactured. For instance, a lot number followed by the letter "A" would indicate that the specific bottle was manufactured on the first shift of production. The same lot number followed by the letter "C" would indicate that the specific bottle was manufactured on the third shift of production. This sequence will continue until the production lot has been completed. In the event there are problems with a lot, this lettering can aid in an investigation to determine when the problem occurred and whether the problem occurs on a single production shift or multiple production shifts.
Q: Dropper Control: Can you explain the variance in the ranges for glucose posted on the Dropper Control? The product numbers are URI4004 and URI4005.
A: It is not unexpected to have the ranges vary slightly from lot to lot. This is true for all quality control material manufactured by any company. For every new lot received, the package insert for each new lot of control should be reviewed for any differences or changes. The changes are attributed to differences in new lots of reagent strips and to manufacturing differences of the control.
Q: HemataCHECK: Why does the lot number on a vial of HemataCHECK not exactly match the lot number listed on the package insert (assay sheet)?
A: Each vial is marked appropriately with the control level and lot number. The lot number printed on the vial is suffixed with a letter that designates the control level. For example, STI-518L indicates the lot is STI-518. The "L" indicates the control level is LOW. Many of the HematoCHEK kits are sold in combinations of levels such as LOW and NORMAL, or LOW, NORMAL, and HIGH. The package insert (assay sheet) is simply labeled with the lot number to provide traceability to each vial of control material that is labeled with the lot number and control level. Q: Tempa-DOT: My 3M Tempa-DOT Clinical Thermometers have been activated and have turned blue. What should I do?
A: This sometimes occurs if they have been exposed to temperatures >95 degrees. Place them in a freezer for at least one hour per box or 16 hours per case. Let stand at room temperature for one day. Dots may appear slightly off-color, but this does not affect the accuracy of the thermometers. (Source: 3M Tempa-DOT Package Insert)
Q: Spill Kit: How much fluid can be absorbed by the SPK0960 Spill Kit with Dispatch?
A: 1500 ml
Q: Scrub Uniform: What scrub uniform sizes and colors are available?
A: The sizes are unisex and generally run large. You may want to order one size smaller than you typically wear. SIZES FOR PANTS & TOPS: XS through 5XL; COLORS FOR PANTS & TOPS: White, Ceil Blue (sky blue), Indigo (navy blue), Hunter Green (dark green), Port (burgundy) and Sage (light green); SIZES FOR DRESSES: XS through 5XL; COLORS FOR DRESSES: White, Ceil Blue (sky blue), Hunter Green (dark green), Port (burgundy) and Sage (light green); PRINT THIS PAGE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE
Q: Dropper Control: The expiration date on the Dropper Control is expressed in months and years. No day is listed. Does that mean that it expires at the end of the month or the beginning of the month?
A: Where it is not specified, products should be considered viable until the last day of the month it expires (Source: Quantimetrix Technical Support, letter dated 6-10-97 on file at HemaSource).
Q: Dispatch: Will freezing compromise the integrity of Dispatch Solution?
A: No. It just needs to be thawed at room temperature. DO NOT HEAT IT. It may be a little cloudy after thawing out but the product has not been compromised. (Source Caltech Industries).
Q: Tempa-DOT: If a 3M Tempa-DOT Clinical Thermometer is in a patient's mouth beyond the prescribed 60 seconds, should the recorded temperature be considered accurate?
A: Yes. (Source: DL at 3M Technical Services, letter dated 10-1-03)
